OUR MISSION

We aim to build a bridge across the global community of women involved and invested in the FIRST program, across generations, so they can inspire and assist each other no matter their location or resources.

Our program wants to work towards the unique issue of young girls in the FIRST program losing the passion for STEM in the transitions between elementary and middle school, and from middle school to high school. 

• As interest for teen boys in STEM continually climbs, teen girls interest in STEM has been steadily decreasing in recent years as evidenced by Junior Achievement surveys
• Women only make up 28% of the STEM workforce, and the disparity is particularly large in the highest paid up and coming fields like engineering and computer science
• Young women are catching on. They hear the stereotypes and discrimination they make face in the work force, which deters them from pursuing STEM careers when they are young and engaged
• The founders of FIRST Sisters have experienced these negative forces first hand and want to respond. 

Lack of role models and support is what will make the difference in the involvement of future generations of women in STEM!
